This is going to sound very silly, when I was in higj school I was told by my parents you'll go to college for law or healthcare, my parents reay pushed nursing on me as it pays well & the curret nursing shortage going on. I became very bitter, hated it, school was the last thing on my mind. I began to realize maybe I do enjoy healthcare & was being bitter because my parents pushed it so much. I am currently halfway through the nursing program(4th semester) & I realize I love medicine and every time I am at clinical I wish I could be doing more of the medicine aspect, diagnosing & prescribing. I am seriously considering switching into premed/biology. Aside from my nursing major I minor in psychology, I have made deans list, I have a 3.6 gpa(I don't study much I know I could get this up), and every friday I volunteer at my community hospital on the adolescent psychiatry unit. I do not feel satisfied with nursing, always wishing to be doimg the medicine aspect. My parents strongly suggest sticking with nursing as I only have 2 more years left & applying to a nurse practitiomer program in the future as it is the same realm of being a physician but a cheaper route with school, less competeive & more family friendly as I am a female. I just believe I am settling taking that route, as most schools perfer you to work a few years as a nurse before applying to a nurse practitioner program i'd be really unhappy those few years. Nursing is a great job, but you have to want to do that kind of work. I also hear in 2015(the year I graduate) nurse practioners will need a doctorate, not a masters anymore. A doctorate takes quite a while to complete, aside from my parents I've had a few people say why don't you just become a doctor. I just think if I know nursing alone isn't for me why not just directly go the medicine route. Anyone ever been in the same position or have advice, thanks.

You may only have 2 years left as well, if you go premed.

Have you looked to see what would happen if you changed your major to something else? Would you just need to take a course or two over the summer (not a premed class) to catch up?

What would your new major be?

Others can chime in here, but I don’t know how med schools view the bio/chem/ochem classes that nursing students take vs the bio/chem/ochem (for majors) that other premeds usually take.
