I turned in my RD application a few weeks ago, but have now decided that ED II is really the decision plan I want to apply for. I recently visited the Vanderbilt campus a second time, this time having more interaction with students and professors. I absolutely love it, and there's no place I'd rather go than Vandy for undergrad. I was wondering if switching my application from RD to ED II would affect my admissions chances in any way. I would hate for it to seem like I goofed up.

I don't really see how this would hurt you. If you do decide to go for it, I would write a letter briefly explaining why because they are most likely going to think that you just got rejected from your ED1 school because this is the time that most people find out. If you are sure that it is your top choice then I would reccomend it.

Maybe if I send it in as soon as possible, it won't be a problem...as of yet, I don't know anyone who has received ED notification

A few schools such as UVA were 12/1...

Yeah and Dartmouth coming up tommorow. I agree with Pasch. Send in a note and explain your new interaction. It made sense to me so I'm guessing it will make sense to them too.

Why don't you call them and ask? At most schools to be considered ED you have to sign a statement agreeing to commit if accepted and I think your high school counselor signs one as well. You can use asking for the fax # for your counselor to submit a new form as the impetus for your call.

Thanks for the responses!

I emailed the admissions officer and he switched my app from RD to ED II, and he said that there would be no need to send in a letter explaining my decision, that the ED signature page indicates that VU is my first choice school and that I have not applied ED anywhere else. So, I have already sent that in. I will call and ask someone else in the admissions office to get a second opinion as to whether or not explaining my switch would be beneficial or unnecessary. I really don't see them rejecting me based off a suspicion that I did apply ED1 somewhere else -- even if i did, there must be a strong reason I'm applying ED II for Vanderbilt. Oh well, I'll probably end up sending the letter anyway, lol. Thanks guys! Oh, and by the way, does anyone mind guessing if I'll get in or not? ---

I'm guessing yes. Especially ED II. RD good chance. ED, most likely.

Whew! Hopefully I'll get in. I'm really thinking that this RD/ED II switch can't hurt my chances.

I would be inclined to say yes - I think that you'll get in.
