I am going to be a freshman this year at USC and am confused about a couple of things. As of now, I am in the Marshall school of business but cannot decide whether I want to major in accounting or finance. I know accounting is in the Leventhal school within Marshall, so how does switching into Leventhal work exactly? Also, when do I need to decide which major I want to pursue? Will I have to choose before my orientation next week? Thanks.

You can transfer into Leventhal from Marshall after you’ve finished the 2 basic accounting classes required of all Marshall and Leventhal students.

I’m not sure what the classes are now, but before they were BUAD 250a and 250b. The requirements to switch into leventhal from Marshall was a B average of those 2 classes with no grade lower than a B- in either of them. I’m assuming the requirements are fairly similar now, but with the new classes.

So are all business students in my position right now or would it have been different if I applied to Leventhal straight out of high school?

You could have applied straight out of high school into Leventhal. I think they’re held to the same standards (need to get the B average in the 2 intro accounting classes) otherwise they’re kicked out of the program. So it really doesn’t make a difference as you take the same classes at the beginning.

Alright thanks for the help.

Is it as easy to switch into Marshall from another major? That’s the (another) million dollar question.

Anyone know?
