switch out of BME?

Hey, my friend (the one w/ this sn) already applied and I'm thinking of applying too but I want to apply BME. My question is, what if I change my mind from this major? I am very interested in pursuing perhaps med school after, or research in bioengineering, thus my reason for choosing this major. However, what happens if I change my mind and decide to go for a different engineering major or switch to the Arts&Sciences school and major in a math/science? Would that be easily possible?

Thanks!

Switching out of BME should be no problem. Its switching in thats difficult.

It's really easy to switch any major except for switching into BME. But as a general remark (not specifically directed to the OP), make sure you know why you're applying for BME if you chose to do so. BME isn't a pre-med major and it doesn't make getting into med school any easier (especially since you have to go through almost the equivalent of a math minor, and other mathematically rigerous engineering courses). If you're interested in applying engineering to medicine (or think you might me. you aren't binding yourself at all), then definitely apply!

I had a friend who considered switching from BME to English, Philosophy, Neuroscience as a triple major....He said he is now back in BME because classes in english and philosophy wasn't right for him. (Aka, he thought those classes were a little tad bit dry and boring). I heard switching out of BME is easy. Happens all the time. :D ChemBE to BME I heard is pretty simple as well.

Getting into BME from another major is difficult because there are very few slots open. The last few years, I believe BME has overenrolled so it may be difficult to get in unless you were admitted as one.

Just to officially confirm what has been said ...

... anyone admitted to BME and enrolls in the program, can ultimately switch out of the major and into any other Engineering or Arts & Sciences major.

... if one chooses to switch out of BME, there is little chance of being able to switch back into the major, so one should be sure if they choose to leave the major.

...the chances to transfer into the BME major are slim to none. The vast majority of the spots in the program (traditionally limited to 100-110 per year) are filled by incoming freshmen students who applied and were directly admitted into the major.

Thanks everyone! I am strongest in math/sci and want to go into that field. I guess I'm applying BME directly.
