One of my parents reside in Indiana and I am currently a CA resident, who got accepted to IU as OOS student. I am planing on switching my residency to in state next year.

Do any of you guys have experiences about about switch residency from OOS to in state?
(I viewed the website...but I am still confused)

If one of your parents currently lives in Indiana, you should be considered an in-state student this fall.

I went to high school in Illinois with a girl who went to Purdue, and since her father was an Indiana resident, she was considered an Indiana resident for tuition purposes from day one.

My father moved to Indiana this March, so he’s not a resident yet.He will become resident next year, after the 12 months requirement. Do you know how this process works ? I heard that I will need to fill out a form for appeal my residency.

Usually when I see posts that ask about getting in-state tuition after coming in as an OOS student, my response is “No, that’s not going to happen.”

Your post is an exception. First, as I read the rules, your father is a resident. The 12 month time frame is for older students. Your father doesn’t have to wait 12 months as I read it. Since he should be considered a resident IF he came here for work, lives here most of the time, and does not have another residence in another state, you don’t have the 12 month requirement because, I assume, you are under 21.

You will have to apply, and your dad will have to provide a notarized statement about several things, but I would try to get in-state tuition now.

Thanks rrah,
But does my father have to meet 12 month requirement in order to become a resident of Indiana, since he switched his CA ID to Indiana ID this March?

I’m sure you’ll get the residency change figured out. My family from moved from California to Indiana two months before fall for work purposes. We had to fill out the appeal forms and such, but we were granted in state tuition.

As I said above, I don’t believe your father has to reside in Indiana for 12 months. He will probably need to complete some paperwork as to why he moved here. Call IU and get things going on this.

@rrah, thanks, I already send an email to the office of registration.(hope they can answer my question by tomorrow.) @JDE1221, Do you mind to tell me more about how this processes work? Don’t your family need to stay in Indiana for 12 month in order to become a resident ? How about CA ID?

We had to file a residency change request or something and show that we didn’t move solely to get in state tuition. It seemed to be a fairly straight forward process.
