Switching AP Calculus Levels

Hello CC,

I have a very important question about my senior year. I skipped a math level from Pre-calculus to AP B/C Calculus this year, rather than going the common way to AP A/B Calculus. During first semester i decided try it out and managed to get a 'C'. This grade is almost unacceptable for my parents and I, and I am extremely concerned about having my acceptance rescinded due to this grade. Is this enough to jeopardize my acceptance? Should I switch to A/B Calculus because getting another bad grade in B/C might affect me even more? Or will switching from B/C to A/B do more harm than good because it shows that i switched a class? Will switching a class rescind my acceptance?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Calc AB is about 2/3 of Calc BC. If you got a C the first semester of BC (apart from just having a much much harder teacher compared to the teacher doing AB-- unlikely), then you’d likely have gotten a similiar grade in AB.

No one really cares if you switch. All that matters for transfer credit is the exam itself (Calc1 or Calc1 and Calc2).

Besides, unless you get an F, your acceptance is safe. Some people think even an F is okay.

Nah you won’t get rescinded. You’ll likely just get a warning (as heard from a peer in my AP Calc BC class - he was on the verge of a C and is already in at Cornell). Schools get worried if you fail numerous classes.

A C is fine, you won’t be rescinded for that alone. However, if you end up failing the class then you may be rescinded.

I took AB and managed a 5 on the BC test… No difference imo

thanks everyone
