Switching between schools

Say, if I was to get accepted into the business school (knock on wood -knocks), how easy would it be for me to switch over to the foreign service school?

Much appreciated.

I heard its pretty difficult to do.

What about switching from COL to MSB?

I heard from my interviewer that it is easiest to switch between the college and SFS. But switching between Nursing and Bus. or either of those with SFS is difficult, and you'll have to retake all entry level courses.

Yeah I heard they know some students apply to the other schools knowing they are easier to get into and hope they can switch into SFS. They're on to your scheme...

Yes, they can tell.

Plus, you'll end up slightly behind if you start out in the college. We have a very specific core, and college students aren't allowed in PST and Map.

its all good...
transferring is very simple, its not difficult at all
i did it
from the coll to msb
just take core classes and they can tel you have an interest
if you transfer to the sfs, you just take pst and map soph year, no biggiee

I called Admissions because I got into the College and wanted to know how to transfer to MSB or SFS. They said it'd be easiest if I transfered before I got there since the Dean requires you to take at least a semester in your original college before you transfer (They said it was semi-difficult but not impossible to change later on...you just have to make up a lot of classes). To transfer before getting to G-town, just send a letter explaining why you want to transfer and then write the admissions essay for whichever college you want to transfer into. They'll look over your essays and then decide. If they don't approve your transfer, you'll still be accepted into your original school and can try to transfer later.

So you don't have to submit the whole application again, just the new essay?

If u decide to switch before the school year starts u still have to take one semester in ur original college?

No, not if you switch before you get there. You have to take a semester there if you go into the first semester and want to change.

If you don't switch schools before you get here, you have to wait a full year in your original school.

How many people do they let switch schools?

That's... only half true. COL students can enroll in Map, just not the first section (I believe...). Registrar's website says INAF-008-02 isn't restricted to BSFS students only.

Switching isn't too difficult but it would be better to try and switch before you start classes rather than later. I think that there's some deadline in the summer that you have to switch by but not quite sure. My roomate is going through the switching thing in the middle of the year and its kind of hectic but not hard. Just be sure that you definately want to commit to the rigid program in the SFS because it does have a lot of requirements. If you're undecided and your still teeter tottering in your decisions, I would really put much consideration and deliberation into your decision. (duh) While the SFS is what Georgetown is known for, Georgetown Academics is Georgetown academics and its top notch whether your in the college, the SFS, MSB or Nursing. The college has a lot more flexibility for the undecided freshman and there's less backlog at in the Dean's office. So it does have its advantages. I'm a college student, so I'm kind of biased. Best of luck with the transfers and your decisions.

Is it really worth all this? I mean are the other school's this much easier to be accpeted to than SFS?
