Many schools have you accepted to the "entire school" so to speak, that is you choose your major and college during registration. Others you are locked into, so much so that your admission decision can be predicated on your college choice.

To that end, which is GW? I applied PolySci but not have this feeling that I would have preferred international relations. Thoughts?

You can do an internal transfer following your first year.

After the first year? Yikes!

There is no way to remedy this? Surely there are numerous students who show up on the first day having had an epiphany to try a new field of study.

Wow–you’re right indeed.

I realize they probably don’t allow this because it would be a logistical nightmare, but does this apply only to current students who get the inclination to switch during the year? Will I get a weird look from my advisor if I want to switch at the beginning of the year.

The first day is not the time to switch. Email the admissions office now, and ask if you can be moved.

The admissions office will likely allow you to make change your app from Columbian college of arts and sciences (Poli Sci) to the Elliot school of international affairs because it is before the application deadline.

I would call them soon as you will what to request this change ASAP!

Great advice guys–thanks! I’ve dispatched an email and will call them should I not get a response in the next 2 days.
