Switching Career Goals from Medicine to Law

Until recently, I've been a pre-med student, with my heart sent on medical school. After a long period of self-doubt about my future, I decided that med-school was not necessarily the right path for me to take.

My problem, however, was not being able to come to terms with myself for dropping something that I had pursued for so long, despite my parents' and peers' support. Unfortunately for me, my final realization of the fact that I would much rather study Law instead of Medicine came after my spring semester's course add/drop deadline. Now, I can't add any more courses to my new found curriculum.

In addition, due to my lack of interest in the sciences, I found that my scores in several of these classes to be slightly sub-par(compared to most other pre-meds).

Obviously, this is a setback.

Now, my question is: How much of a setback is this?

Essentially, I've missed a year towards my education for a pre-law track, a year that I spent doing what I feel to be sub-par work in pre-med studies. Naturally, I doubt that any of the courses I've taken(except writing courses that I excelled in) have anything to do with a typical prelaw set of studies, but, how much will they count when law schools do judge me as a student?

BTW, there’s no such thing as a “pre-law” track. Unless you’ve murdered your GPA, I don’t see how it sets you back at all.

if you’re only a year in, you’ll be fine. This is one of the typical pre-med routes.
