Does anyone know how hard it is to switch schools? For example, if you were accepted to the college of Arts and Sciences and later realize you want to major in business, would it be difficult to switch? And can you take classes across different schools to prevent getting far behind while waiting until you are officially in the other school? Any insight would be appreciated!

I'd like to know this as well.

Doesn't anyone have any idea?!? Sorry I'm just struggling to make my college decision and this information could be a big factor - please help if you know anything!

this same thing happened to me. I was accepted into ARts and Sciences. I called the admission department up and asked how hard is it to switch. And they said it can be a little tough, you just need to prove why you want to switch.

Hello all, I'm a current frosh at BC and can provide a lot of insight on this issue. Internal transfer (that is, from one school to another once you are already at BC) is possible, though probably more difficult than at other schools. Switching from business to arts and sciences is no big deal, but going from A&S to business can be a little more tricky. A few pieces of advice:
1) If you are a junior and planning on applying to BC with an interest in business, APPLY TO CSOM (Carroll School of Management)! The acceptance rate is SLIGHTLY lower numbers-wise, but I believe that the admissions office doesn't consider your undergraduate division choice when reviewing aps.
2) If you are already accepted at BC, you have a couple of options:
-If you are fairly certain that you are interested in business but applied to A&S, call the admissions office and essentially tell them you made an error on your application...you applied to A&S but really wanted to do business. Basically just tell them you want to switch. It may depend on the person you talk to (idk), but one of my best friends did this last year and completed the change in 5 minutes over the phone.
-Maybe your not sure about business. If you change from A&S to business over the phone, for example, but then decide to go back to A&S after your freshman year, this is quite simple. If you stick with A&S, you will be in it your entire freshman year, then you have a few options. You can always apply to internal transfer after the end of your frosh year (though a minimum 3.6 GPA is required to apply). You can also stick with A&S all four years and major in something like econ, or something totally unrelated but that interests you, such as physics, and you can still get a minor in business (6 three-credit classes). Keep in mind that about 50% of grads entering Wall Street don't have a "business" degree.

The first year, you will probably be taking a lot of core classes anyway (philosophy, writing, lit, languages, science, history, etc.). A&S students can still take a CSOM class or two to "test the waters".

Bottom line: BC understands that freshman don't know what they want to do with their lives or even their undergraduate careers. They will be flexible (I actually believe they now changed their policy that freshman cannot declare a major...meaning that internal transfer would probably become easier). It is a great school, and if you visit and love it like I did, enroll...and your major will work out. That being said, once you decide to confirm enrollment, consider calling and switching to CSOM right away if you have a keen interest in business.

I know this was really long winded. Hope it helps, post if you have any more questions.

Thanks! That definitely helped me, because I think I'd like to try business my freshman year at least. The only thing that gets tricky is that I was accepted to the A&S Honors Program and my parents really want me to be in the Honors program if they're paying all this money to go to BC. =/

its a lot easier than it is at some schools (ie Cornell, where you actually have to apply as a regular transfer student to get into one of the other colleges)

19382...the girl i mentioned in the above post (that called to switch from A&S to CSOM) was in the same position. She was accepted to A&S Honors Program, but called, and they let her switch to Honors in CSOM. You could definitely try that. However, after starting at BC, switching from A&S honors to CSOM honors doesn't work like that... to get into CSOM Honors, a 3.9GPA is required

what are the perks you get if you get into an honors program?

Thanks so much xcjimmy! I'll call ASAP to try and work things out.

I'm pretty sure that if you get in touch with your admissions counselor before you commit to BC that you can very easily be switched to a different school. I remember my counselor telling me this last year.

My friend called today and switched easily from A&S to CSOM.

That was easy lol.

wow that does seem easy...i think i will try the same thing

would it be strategic to apply to A&S then transfer to CSOM because Carroll is harder to get into?

how hard would it be if one transfer from nursing to A&S??

By the way, who do you contact to switch from the A&S to Carroll?

Do you just contact the admissions office and ask bluntly?
