Switching Colleges???

Hi, I got into Bioengineering: Biotechnology for next fall. I'm admitted to ERC (Eleanor Roosevelt College) but I want to switch to Warren. Warren is a lot easier for engineering students and I heard it's a lot closer to Jacobs. I also am not too keen on 6 quarters of history... I heard ERC has easier GE's for non-science majors and Warren is a lot easier for engineering majors. I really really want to switch to Warren, is it possible? I also would rather take the Warren required writing program, I want to minor in Political Science. Is there any way I can switch colleges before I start classes? I read on the UCSD website that you have to complete the writing program and prove you can graduate in fewer quarters to switch colleges. I don't really know if it's true that if you know someone that wants to switch colleges with you, that's also an option. I'm not really sure if that's true though. Just in case, would anyone want to go to ERC instead of Warren? Thanks!

The place-for-a-place switching dealie isn't true. I can't imagine many people wanting to transfer into Revelle or ERC!

Why? What's wrong with Revelle or ERC? GE's?

You can go to ERC the first year and then switch to Warren the second. You may have to take a few Warren writing classes or whatever, but cumulatively, you'll have to take less GE's that won't apply to your major. I'm almost posiive you can't switch before even starting.

Nothing's inherently "wrong" with Revelle or ERC GEs. They just tend to get spoken of / belittled a lot because they're five and six quarters long, respectively ... and suffice it to say that not many people like that idea.

shrug I was in Revelle and took Hum3-5 at a JC, so I can't complain.

Oh, okay. thanks a lot! I really would prefer that UCSD would let me switch within the first few days. The highlights of ERC really aren't what I'm interested in. I do like Warren very much. Are the counselors helpful at SD?

switching within "the first few days" will never be a possibility, not at the rate that they're filling up dorms to capacity. besides, you're going to be making friends and getting used to college for the first few weeks -- a few annoying GEs will only make you guys bond more :)

i didn't like my college (revelle) counselors much, but i have much applause for the advisers (we don't call them counselors if they're just there to advise on school issues) of the chemistry department. i had a few dumb hiccups along the way, like accidentally dropping myself from over-enrolled classes, forgetting to enroll for already-full classes, wheedling myself out of bad TA assignments, and they helped me out every time.

i never visited the revelle counselors again after my first quarter. i got all my information and advice from professors and senior students.

i think i saw some post earlier about the ERC advisors sucking. the campus is great though and their rooms are pretty big. i wouldn't mind living there. IHouse (international house) is also in ERC and i hear they have a lot of parties there.

i'm in warren though and i love it.
anywho i think it should be easy for you to prove that you can graduate early if you switch to warren since you're an engineer major. i know a guy who's trying to transfer from revelle into warren. he said changing colleges is a pain in the ass.

and question for you. do you really need to creat two threads with the same question? really now...

i only created one thread... Thanks for your input though!

I happen to be in the exact same situation. I'm a prospective Engineer admitted to ERC wanting to switch to Warren. I've tried requesting for the change and they said said that they cannot honor my request. :(
I guess I have to stick with it for one year.

i'm sorry, i thought i saw another thread created by you. must've been a little tired. haha.

anywho, i appologize.
