Switching Colleges

Is it hard to switch from.. lets say, Viterbi to Marshall?
(incoming freshman)

This question comes up often and I’d really like to hear the answer you find out in your situation. I know how it works in only these two situations:

-During application process/before decisions come out- it is possible to change the major you are applying to by notifying admissions so that school can evaluate your application.

-After you are a student at USC, you can transfer to another school. Some schools, like Viterbi and Marshall, require an application. Other schools, like CLAS, just require some paperwork.

However, in your case, you MAY be able to talk to admissions RIGHT NOW about transferring. They may be able to have your application evaluated by Marshall. I don’t know this for sure but I would like to know the answer when you find out. Call Admissions ASAP.

Good luck!

Yeah, I had the same question (except for me from Marshall to CLAS). I called the admissions people and she said that it’s relatively easy (just fill out some paperwork and have your current college sign off on it) if you want to transfer to a rather “unpopular” major, such as neuroscience. But for the more “popular” majors, like Business, Communications, etc, there may not be a spot for you or you may have to go through an application process, in which you could be rejected.

Switching from Marshall to CLAS is different than switching from CLAS to Marshall. CLAS does not require a transfer application.

The transfer process does not differ because of “popular” or “unpopular” majors; it has to do with the fact that some schools require specific admission. CLAS happens to be one school within USC that does not require specific admission. Once you are admitted to any school at USC, you can easily transfer to any major in CLAS with a small amount of paperwork.

I don’t know. Don’t colleges get mad when you are accepted into one school and try to transfer to another?

I wouldn’t call neuroscience “unpopular” - most people I know switch to it from other sciences. =P

As far as I know, they don’t get mad here if you decide to switch schools eg. Viterbi to Marshall. It just takes more time and paperwork.
