Hello,

I am thinking about switching from BA in Biology to BA in Criminal Justice...hearing the downsides and negativity to graduating with a degree in biology due to the competition, lack of jobs (lack of good jobs) and horrible pay - I was wondering if the criminal justice degree program differentiates in any way to the bio degree? Does CJ provide better jobs, pay, more opportunities, better chances for a variety of different graduate school options, looks better on resume etc?

Thank you

Honestly, criminal justice does not offer that many more jobs than biology. I’m not kidding you. Bio will look more rigorous in a grad school application, but that might not be your best option depending on the type of job you go into. If you are looking into a job that is more people-oriented, go for the social science. If you want one that is more computational, go for bio. Get a degree based on what you want to do, not what has better job prospects. If you are good at what you do, you will eventually find a job that suits you.

If you are just looking for a degree that equals a job upon graduation, go for accounting. It is probably too late for engineering for you, and you need to have a certain mindset for engineering, whereas accounting doesn’t require a specific talent. It is a skill you can learn.

Oh and nursing is good too. They always need nurses, and that field has ties to biology.

Criminal justice is no better than bio, and is probably worse.
