I've read that if you hate a certain TA, you could always attend another TA's discussions and skip the one you're enrolled in. But how about discussions in which quizzes are given? (The class in mind is Lavelle's Chem14A.) Can you just go and take a quiz at the discussion at a time that's better for you and have the TA grade that, or will you need to switch enrollment? And if you do need to, how and is it easy?

you can talk to both of them and see if they're fine with it, if not then you have to officially switch into their sections.

switching is easy. just log onto URSA, goto enrollment, and switch sections within a class. enter the course ID for the one you want to drop and for the one you want to add, click done, and its as simple as that.

of course, that is assuming that the one you want to switch into has open spaces. if not, you have to talk with the TA and see if you can get a PTE number, or just keep watching the registrar page like a hawk until someone drops and then go on URSA and switch into it really quickly. :p

Thanks bunches!

what's the PTE number for?

PTE stands for Permission to Enroll.

For a discussion where quizzes are administered, it is usually unflexible to switch sections unless you find someone who would also like to swap. If this occurs, you go to the department with the other person, and the will work it out.

For future references, for other courses in which no exams, quizzes, or attendance is recorded, switching is usually granted without another party, as long as the room permits another student and the TA is notified.

Or the professor will announce in class the possibility of switching...

I don't think you really need to notify the TA if attendance isn't recorded since they could care less.
