Um... just recently I found out my dorm and roommate at Exeter.
To be honest, I don't really think that my roommate and I have anything in common (I've talked to her several times) and the dorm isn't near any buildings that I would have liked to be near.
I'd like to switch and I know that i might end up in a dorm I'd like but with a roommate that I probably won't have anything in common with.

Is it a bad idea to switch dorms?
I normally just deal with things even if I don't like it/want it.
But this time, I would really like to...

Any ideas on whether I should switch my dorm?

Is that even an option? Perhaps you can call however makes these assignments and express your concerns. Maybe they have a reason that you’re unaware of; like the character of the dorm parents or something?

goodness gracious, at least give her a chance. you’ve never even met her, and the fact that your dorm isnt near any of your favorite buildings just means that youre going to be in great shape by the end of the year. but seriously, dont prejudice your roommate because of a couple of awkward phone calls

That’s the spirit! Also, keep in mind that the roommate is probably just as nervous as you are. Besides, isn’t befriending people who are different one of the advantages to going to BS?

I’m sure you’ll be fine. (And I never thought you were rude )

You don’t have to have much in common to be good roommates - my first year at boarding school, my roommate was basically my totally opposite but we got along great and ended up being good friends.
