How common is it to get a bachelor's in one type of engineering, but get a masters in another?

very.......

Agree but just an extra semester or two taking pre-reqs.

Do you usually have to take the pre-reqs before entering the master's program or during the master's program?

what pre-req's I have a friend who did business in his undergrad got a good gre score and is now in a EE masters program at RIT. He had no engineering experience/.

50g50g and he didn't have to take courses like calc III, physics II not to mention signals & systems, controls, circuit analysis, etc...? How can you be in an EE grad program having never taken those classes? Was he just born with this knowledge?

"He had no engineering experience/."

idk, he has been in it for a year, and only 1 more left. Il ask him. but i doubt he took any courses.

I know Carnegie Mellon takes in student with science backgrounds into some of their engineering grad programs. The only catch is they have to spend another year and take some of the engineering fundamental courses.

Admission requirements
Admission into graduate studies leading to the MS degree in electrical engineering requires a bachelor of science in electrical engineering degree from an accredited program.

An applicant with a strong undergraduate record and a bachelor of science degree in another branch of engineering (mechanical, chemical, industrial, etc.) also will be considered for admission. In this case, the student must complete a certain number of undergraduate courses in order to bridge over to electrical engineering. Additional information is available from the department.
