Switching from AeroE to Comsci what science courses should I take?

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the process of switching majors from aerospace engineering to computer science. My main reason is I’d like to pursue the field of writing software for avionics. I also like that computer science won’t lock me into one particular niche. Also, after speaking to someone at SpaceX (my goal employer), I’ve decided this is a better direction for me.

Anyways, my question is what science courses should I take? UT:Austin, my preferred school, requires comsci to take two sequences of science courses. My choices are Micro-Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or Engineering Physics.

I’ve already completed the Chemistry sequence for Engineering, and was wondering which my second path should be if I am interested in avionics. I know typically physics isn’t recommended, from what I’ve seen, but in this case, could it help? If not I am debating between Micro and Geology, leaning towards micro. If they are all pretty irrelevant, than geology seems to be the best pick as it doesn’t require any pre-reqs.

Thanks.

Physics sounds like great background to have if you’re writing code that operates in such realm. It is always a good idea to have background information for the program you’re writing. Sounds like the best bet.

Physics is more applicable to aviation than biology or geology.
