Hey I'm an incoming freshman and I'm a bit intimidated by the competition here at UCLA. I was wondering what would have better job opportunities after college, a chemistry major or chemical engineering major? Which has a harder curriculum at UCLA?

I'm pre-med, so I figured that if I don't get into medical school, I'll at least have a job with chemical engineering after college. Does this sound like a good plan?

There’s more to an answer than you might think. On the one hand, a ChemE has great job prospects, while a BS in a science doesn’t really qualify you for anything. The union card for a good research job is a PhD. On the other hand, engineering is typically harder than most other majors (can’t say if its harder than Chem, ask around) and since med school admissions takes a huge look at GPA, it might turn out that you would have got in to med school as a Chem major but not as a ChemE.
