At UCLA I was admitted to the econ major but I was thinking about switching to bus-economics. I am a one year transfer so I had to cram a bunch of GE's so I didn't have room to do the accounting classes for Bus-Econ and therefore had to apply for regular Econ. Is it possible?

As seen on UCLA’s page for transferring into Bus Econ

*Demand for this major significantly exceeds space available. You must be admitted directly into this major; you will not be able to change to this major after admission to UCLA. Students are classified as Pre-Business Economics until they complete the preparation courses at UCLA.

so, no, I guess you can’t.

In case anyone cares, I asked the econ counselor at UCLA and they told me that I can

then why would everyone even bother to apply bus econ? just apply econ and transfer into bus econ. they are all pre major. i dont understand.
another hypothesis, take two econ courses and apply for math major. then transfer into bus econ. you only need 3.4 or something to get into math major i think…so…why even bother apply for bus econ.

Econ and Bus-econ are both in the Econ dept. Average accepted GPA is 3.9 for both which makes them pretty much equally competitive to get in. It says on assist.org that “After transfer to UCLA, students may not change their major to Business Economics if they were originally admitted to a major outside the Department of Economics.” Since I already was admitted to a major in the department, I suppose I can freely change to bus-econ.

Math-econ is in the math department, not the econ department so you could not switch if you wanted.

I am a 2011 UCLA transfer. As long you are admitted in the Econ department (biz econ/econ) you can switch between the two. Note: Math/Econ is in the math dept.
