Switching from IA to Summer B

I was accepted to the Spring 2014 term for the Innovation Academy, but I really don't want to do this - I preferred going to Summer B instead, which is what I applied for, despite checking the "IA" box - are choice I wholeheartedly regret. If I call admissions and ask them to switch me from IA to Summer B, is it possible that they will grant my request? How can I raise my chances of this happening?

Thanks a lot, any advice or opinions are helpful.

I too was accepted to the Spring 2014 term for IA, which I realize now that clicking that box was a mistake. I called the office of admissions today but they seemed to be of no help :frowning: I also went and called the Innovation Academy as well, however no one was there for advice.

Basically from what I have read and heard, switching out of IA is almost impossible, however I am still trying to gather more information on the topic.

It’s not a bad program at all. Just unique and different

I too was accepted into IA for Spring 2014 and I am very upset that I clicked that box. I called the Admissions Office today and what they said was that since we clicked that box for IA that we were basically saying we only wanted to do IA. I am very upset I clicked that box, I am trying my best to get my term changed and will let you guys know how that goes. Please do the same…

The program is excellent but there’s a reason it’s an option. I understand the inaugural class having some students who checked the box not knowing they were actually applying to it because the way it was presented on the apps for them was like it was requesting more info. on the program. But for the new apps, for you guys, it was made clear what IA was, that you’re applying to it, and it was even given it’s only little section.

Hey you guys , i totally understand how upset you could be about IA ,im in it right now and its true that it sucks bad , it is a crappy program and i say that with all respect and truth, sabertooth , i know you have listed the laundry list , etc , idk if your even in IA to be honest but i think you are because you know WAYYY TO MUCH ABOUT IA ! But yeah i tried doing an Appeal from IA to Summer B and they will let you do it , but my appeal and everyone elses got denied , i mean from my logic is the more unpopular you guys make IA the better so that they can cancel this black shadow upon UF , But in all reality , IA or NOT , its still UF and UF is a great place to be soo dont make up, your mind yet, IA does SUCK i know im in it . But UF IS AN AMAZING PLACE , SO FORGET ABOUT IA AND PUT UF ON YOUR MIND THATS WHAT I DID

@Moveeh: I’m standard (sorta common knowledge), but I have close friends in it lol; they like it, only like one or two is just indifferent (they thought it was getting more info., not actually applying to it). Lol, I remember you from last year actually, and I could probably still bring up some of your threads. All I know is people who walked in like all, angry or negative are still angry/negative because that’s how they kept their mindset. Those who walked in positive are good to go. The majority of my friends in IA had a positive attitude and now like the program itself.

Honestly, Moveeh, it’s your fault if you don’t like it because it’s not for everyone. You let yourself be negative and even more so, you accepted your offer to IA. Your negativity/you being upset is all on you. If I have friends in it that are loving it and even got special treatment in certain scenarios (since, like a bunch of UF organizations and all want a piece of IA, trying to recruit students from the program), then all I can say that it’s you. I myself wouldn’t mind doing it (can’t transfer into it), but I’m too far into my major at this point and already have the remainder of my “college life” set out. If I did have a box to check IA, I’d do it. The minor you guys get literally says “I know how to work in teams and think outside the box,” now for my field…that’s what recruiters look for.

Also GatorPhysics, one of my friends claimed a student switched from IA to Summer due to health issues or some complicated thing. You gotta have a good reason. Last year when I was talking to an admissions officer (casual conversation, had something to do at Criser that day), they told me IA is treated as a term when students are placed in it. Switching out once admitted is hard because it’s like you’re trying to take back a Fall/Spring spot they gave away or something like that. I forgot the details. But you are right when you say those who didn’t check IA would be Fall/Spring right now. Just like if a Summer admit picked Fall, they would be a Fall admit, not Summer (unless, of course, UF capped out and was forced to resort to deferments for any of the “leftovers” if that makes sense). So in a sense, those not happy with IA, it’s your fault for checking the box. I can understand my one or two friends not thrilled (just indifferent) since they didn’t know they were applying cuz it was a simple box and little info. next to it. But for you guys, there was like a whole section about it, so you knew what you were doing when you hit the box. No excuses, take responsibilities and own up to your actions.
