Switching from premed to Engineering

I start school in Fall 2015 after taking a year off to get things together. I will be pursuing an engineering major but am still stuck between Chemical VS Electrical Engineering.
I perfer chemical because I enjoy chemistry but I have a friend who graduated with a pretty high GPA in CE and is working a pretty meager job in NY which scares me

Also would getting my CCNET certification with a CE degree be helpful in landing a job in the future?

Well, Chemical Engineering does not have all that much chemistry in it. You won’t be taking upper level organic or inorganic chemistry but you will have a lot of physical chemistry in addition to the typical chemical engineering courses. These days many Chemical Engineering departments are morphing into Chemical and Biological Engineering departments because the job market is not as strong as it used to be in the traditional areas of pharmaceutical and petroleum. However, a lot of chemical engineers are working in the energy sector of fuel cells and batteries which are more interdisciplinary. however, realize that you will be looking fora job in 4-5 years not right away and the market is cyclical.

Is your friend working in a Chemical Engineering related field?

What you should do is to communicate with your prospective schools career centers and see how they have done in placing each of the majors you are interested in. This will help you figure out a balance between your interests and the possible employment.
