Switching from SAT to ACT this summer?

I have been prepping for SAT for the past year and I have a SAT score of 2250 right now (650 CR… Yep my reading is bad). I already registered for the Oct SAT and I hope to bring my CR score to 700s. But my counselor recommended that I try ACT so I took a practice test which I received a 35 composite on, with a surprising 36 on reading. I have to admit that ACT reading is more straightforward than SAT CR, BUT the issue is that I am spending nearly 50 minutes on this reading section, which was supposed to be only 35 mins long. The time alloted is too insane and I’m not positive that my speed can improve with more practice (English is not my first language). I just don’t know what I should do now. Should I concentrate solely on SAT (especially CR section, which does not come naturally to me, so I don’t know by how much I can improve), or study SAT and ACT side by side (which COULD mean some precious time will be taken away from SAT prep)?

This summer is very busy for me and i’ll be a rising senior. Any suggestions would be nice. Thanks in advance!

You might want to try to get extra time for the reading section, since English isn’t your first language.

You’re saying you got CR650, M800, W800? Why waste your time preparing for an entirely new test when all you have to do is prepare for the SAT CR? You can get a few more points in CR just by practicing and getting more familiar with the format.

You admit that the time on the ACT is not enough time for you, so why waste your time on it?

@littlehappy

Even if nothing changed, you have a very good SAT Score!

I suggest taking the September ACT and October SAT. Scoring well on the ACT requires you read quickly and correctly. Practicing this skill will only help you on the SAT.

To be successful, you must TIME yourself in your practice sessions. This is key.
