Switching Halls

Is it hard to switch halls? I hear that speare, and stetson are more desirable dorms because majority of the freshman are there and the dining halls are there too. Is it easy to ask to be switched into one of these halls if you are in one of the others like smith, kennedy, etc. ?? Thank you!

Well I can tell you Freshman year I was in Speare and the best dorms were Smith and Kennedy. The kids are much more relaxed in those dorms. I would have considered them the “party” dorms. You can hear sooo much of the noise in Speare and Stetson that its hard to get away with things.

Switch out of kennedy? No Way! If you’re lucky enough to get placed into the suite-style kennedy, I doubt you’d want to switch to stetson. Although Kennedy, when I lived there, was definitely not quiet. We had our fair share of partying going on.

Smith and Kennedy are in great locations, right on hemenway and like 2 minutes from the dining halls. Definitely not isolated. White is even better, can’t get much closer to campus than that. Either way, I think your dorm experience is almost totally dependent on who your roommates are, not what building you’re in.

Plus parcel is open in the fall, so that’s going to change things a bit.

Really?? My two main concerns are that its gonna be rough walking to the dining halls during winter and that majority of freshman are in stetson and speare.

But before i opened my housing forms i’d never even heard of smith, so i could be totally wrong. So i guess i just need to hear more personal experiences living in smith. Anybody?

A lot of my buddies lived in smith this past year and really, really liked it. Look, it’s a good place to live, but what makes places fun to live is the friends you make there not necessarily the rooms you have.

^exactly. It’s just a building, won’t make or break your year.

The walk from Kennedy/smith to the dining halls is literally 2 minutes. Plus you’ll get used to walking around a lot in winter. You still have to get to campus, to friends’ dorms, etc, it’s not a big deal.

Yeah, you guys are right! Thanks for the input. i was really nervous before, because i don’t know anyone, but now i’m really excited.

The Stetsons suck. I lived in West 1st semester last year, and while the D-hall being right there was nice, I was tired of how noisy and how much of a prison it looked like. After break I switched to a suite in 153 Hemenway and really enjoyed it. The people were cooler, the space bigger (in my opinion) and the RA was very lax. However if you are in Smith/Kennedy now I would suggest staying there for I found myself hanging out over there more than I did in my room in Stetson West.

However if you still feel the need to switch I would suggest giving it a few weeks and if you still would like to switch you have to talk to go to housing in Sphere. They gave me a few options to choose from, it all depends on availability of the rooms and what not. You can go look at the room(s) and meet the roommate(s). Then you have like 48 hours to choose. Once you move you cannot move again that year. Good luck.
