Switching Housing

So I received my contract in the mail today -- Bursley (i.e. North).

Not to happy about it. Any way to switch?

http://housing.umich.edu/info/changes.html

Go to Female/Male (depending on whichever one you are) Swap/Reassignment listings.

About a third of the first-year class will be assigned to North Campus. First of all, it's not so bad. Bursley and Baits are actually some of the nicer dorms, and the food at Bursley is supposed to be the best. You'll still meet a lot of people and have a great time. And you can move to a Central Campus dorm as a sophomore.

I got Bursley, too. Not happy.

Bursley here too;

Hopefully an art/music/engineering student wants to trade me something on Central/Hill for it? :(

Or someone who just doesn't care and wants to be nice? :D

For females looking to find an open space/trade to Central/Hill, you'd have a much better chance by focusing on the women's dorms...Stockwell, Barbour, Newberry, Cook. The U assigned me to Stockwell as a frosh and I thought I'd hate it, but it turned out to be great.

Also, if it isn't too late to join the Residential College, your dorm assignment would be in East Quad on Central.

if you didn't sign your contract, you can just do a contract reassignment rather than do a room swap.

do people like Oxford? or is switching out of Oxford out of the question..

yupp ladies-- you have a much higher chance of getting offered a room in the all-girls dorms. i lived in bursley first semester (thought i could bare through with it) but went on a waitlist and got offered a single in stockwell second semester.. i was hesitant because i didnt want to live in an all-girls dorm but it turned out to be really great.. im living there agian next year (my experience second semester was so good that i decided stockwell > squad or any of hte other dorms on central)..

oxford--my friends who lived there didnt mind it. yeah its far, but they loved the small, tightly-knit community (suffering together in isolation).. tehres also a small dining hall there contrary to popular belief, so eating isnt even that much of a problem. the only problem i see is if youre a girl, you better make sure somebody walks you home late at night because walking on south u to oxford gets really scary when its dark.

to jxu613:

i read a couple of ur previous posts, and in them u said u got into honors. how did u end up with bursley? i contacted housing a while back and they said all honors students will end up in either south quad or couzens... luckily i got south quad.

Yeah, I decided to not do the honors program. To me, the only incentive was housing, which isn't enough of a reason for me to do so.

There will be times that I regret it, but a lot of other incoming freshmen are in Bursley, which is a comforting thought.

I got Bursley, although I did actually request it. Yeah, I know, I must be crazy...

I have read many posts with different opinions about the honors housing. Are the kids in south quad, honors..any different socially? I know this question is asked a million times, but I am envisioning a different mix of kids than the other dorms, and am hoping I can fit in. I don't think of myself as "super" intelligent, although I am a pretty serious student. I am from the NY metropolitan area, and although I am very interested in meeting kids from all over, I am hoping that I can fit in socially. Are there other honors students that do not apply for the honors housing? I am considering taking a random housing assignment, but I am aware that South Quad is much preferred. Does anyone else that is in the honors program have the same concerns?

How are you guys finding out already? I thought the housing lottery isn't until May. I applied to an MLC. Is that the reason I haven't gotten mine yet?

i got bursley too if anyone wants to switch on central or hill
