Switching into Nursing from CFANS

I got into CFANS but looking into transferring to nursing… is it possible to do that at this point or do I need to transfer once enrolled sometime within the school year?

@hannau5 UMN usually recommends those looking into nursing to apply through their Nursing guarantee program as that’s typically the way undergraduates transfer in (direct admit once they maintain a certain gpa) On their website located here : https://admissions.tc.umn.edu/admissioninfo/nursing_guarantee.html

They say for those not accepted into the nursing program their freshman year, they recommend pursing a masters of nursing. This is because admission is considered highly selective and it’s difficult to transfer in if not in the program already. CFANS should also prepare you for a masters degree in nursing as well.

^ Ditto the above advice. You won’t be able to transfer in before enrolling and transferring during your time at UMN is going to be near impossible given the highly selective nature of the program.

So what you CAN do - assuming your heart is set on nursing - is to inform your advisor of your intent to obtain a master’s in nursing and have him/her help you select gen. eds. and a major that compliment and prepare you for this goal. You can also begin to review the possible majors in CFANS and the Masters of nursing pre-reqs to make sure you meet them at some point during your undergraduate years.

Good luck to you.
