Switching into school of engineering

Is it too late to switch into the College of Engineering at most schools? I will be a freshman in the fall at Purdue and am considering changing my major from Chemistry to Chem. Engineering. Does anyone know how I could do this? thanks

It'll vary by school. Ask your academic advisor, the records office, or see if there is a section on it in the University Catalog.

make sure u know what chem engineering is, it really has almost nothing to do with chemistry, it has alot more to do with heat transfer and flow through pipes.

jbtravers, there will likely be almost 100% overlap in the freshman year curriculum between Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students.

And Zorz, I guess that's why ChemE's have to take two semesters of organic chemistry and two semesters of physical chemistry (in addition to 2 semesters of intro. chemistry)?

yeah they take organic chemistry but every school i know has physical chem for chem engineers, which is nothing like standard physical chem. I have a few chemical engineering friends, they all hate it and feel they were duped on what the program sounds like, its like mech e with a few extra chem classes, nothing special, if you love chemistry study chemistry,

I have never heard of P-Chem for chemE's. Chemical engineers here (UF) and most everywhere else take the actual p-chem course sequence.

Zorz, most people don't go to the school of hard knocks like you do.

Might have to take ChemE classes first semester and officially transfer second - i have no clue though

Doesn't really matter at all either way - you have the same academic progress, just you are designated a chemistry major first semester

just talk to your advisor during sept. or even before that.

thats how i changed my major from biology to Eng.
[but i talked to my advisor during july, that was the time when i had my orientation.]
