Switching into UCLA HSSEAS

How hard is it to switch into the College of Engineering after one gets into the College of Letters of Sciences? I changed my mind about what major I wanted to pursue after I applied already so I couldn't apply to HSSEAS.. Has anyone experienced a change of major to a different college? Is it really that hard to do so?

Assuming you are an inbound freshman, transferring to the engineering college is pretty competitive. Normally at the minimum, you will have to take two quarters of math/science classes, then apply for the change of college. I have been told to remain competitive, usually, you have to get Bs…

What engineering program are you hoping to get into?

I heard it’s easier to switch out of HSSEAS rather than into it.

I’m looking into either mechanical or aerospace engineering …

I actually wanted to do the same. Except, I want to switch from business econ to maybe nursing or pre-med. Do you think that’s possible?

@PolyUrethane Easier out than in. But the app to get in isn’t that hard if you keep your grades up.

Biz Econ to a pre-med field is simple - just talk to your counselor and make sure you take the right classes in whatever major you choose (reminder… pre-med isn’t a major, pick something interesting). However, I’m not sure, but you should look into nursing since I feel that there may be more hoops to jump through and difficulty.

My old roommate got A’s and B’s and was able to switch into CS fairly easily from some south campus LS during 1st year, spring quarter. The bad thing was that she had to retake math and chemistry, but she’s doing what she loves now. Just talk to the counselor – I think the main thing is just grades.

Alright I guess I should definitely keep my grades up then … thanks guys!

I did the same - I applied to transfer into HSSEAS beginning of fall quarter my freshman year. They waited until my grades were out, then let me transfer.

check this link for details on switching your major :D

hm … on that link it says that I have to attend for at least two quarters before I transfer…? arklogic, they let you in after fall quarter of freshman year?

they’ve changed some policies since we were freshman.

ah, i see. that’d make sense.

Wow I didn’t realize they had changed the policy.
