Hey guys, I'm in sort of a dilemma. Right now I'm a HS sophomore in Chinese 3 Pre-IB but I seriously think the level of work I have to put in is too much to where it will definitely start to affect the amount of time I have for my other core classes, sports, music, and other extra-curriculars (My schedule is all core classes and my language so my nights are pretty packed). My writing with characters is terrible, I literally live off of pinyin (symptoms of being ABC and introduced to pinyin at a young age) I've thought long and hard about this and I'm very seriously considering dropping Chinese and Switching to Spanish 2 as I've had Spanish 1 and I'm sure I can handle the work load. I was wondering what colleges would think of this even if I did consistently well or even jumped to Spanish 4 next year if I made the effort. Also, I'm planning to spend an entire summer in China either 2015 or 2016 to learn Chinese (obviously I have to find a reputable program) do you think colleges would take this into consideration?

It will be fine. Spanish will do as well as Chinese. Make sure you check the colleges you are targeting for the level of language required. If they want four years that means getting to Spanish 4 by the time you graduate.
