I was just accepted off the waitlist as a pre-economics major, but I’m now having doubts as to whether I actually want to do the class. I’d much rather do film and media studies as my major, but my parents believed it be more practical to apply for economics. I’m thinking of switching now, but to switch I need to send an email prior to submitting my SIR. The SIR is due in 3 days and the major change request may take up to 2 weeks to process. If I submit my major change request and then submit my SIR before I know if my major has changed, will I be stuck with Economics? Or will it still process the major change request and change it later?

Doesn’t seem to be hard to go from pre-film-and-media-studies to film-and-media-studies. However, you may want to check with the department that it is not difficult to declare pre-film-and-media-studies. It looks like the pre-* majors at UCSB are for class enrollment prioritization.
