Switching majors at a CC with 60 units already?

So I’ve spent the past two years studying business at my current CC and I’ve realized that I don’t want to do business anymore - I’ve already accumulated 60 units.

I’d really rather switch my course of study at my CC than transfer as a business major however I’m hearing now that some UC’s and Cal states have a unit cap and, should I switch my major, I know that I’ll definitely exceed that unit cap.

If I just explained to the UC’s that I decided to switch my major would they overlook my unit over-accumulation?

I would assume that the UC would include the units/grades for the classes you need for X MAJOR and then go from there.

If you’re applying for an engineering major, it wouldn’t make sense for them to include, for example, all of your business-focused classes and ignoring all the engineering pre-reqs.

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but that just seems like the most logical scenario to me.
