How easy is it to transfer between colleges (i.e. is Georgia Tech a good place for someone who has no idea what she’s going to end up becoming)? There’s no place on the application that asks specifically which college I’m interested in – if I’m accepted, will Tech place me in a college based on my first choice major, or do students commit to colleges later?
Admission does not take into account your desired major or lack thereof. You probably have to choose a major on the initial application, but it is easy to change at any time. They will place you in a college based on your initial choice, but like I said not a problem to change. And to answer your larger question is GA tech a good place for someone who has no idea what they want to do?? My daughter was exactly this person at Tech her first year and took classes that would work with any major and found a major she loves.
I believe you can apply undecided. They say they do not look at applicants major during the admission process. Some majors have restrictions for changing into their majors where you have to meet certain requirements to change such as gpa and courses when u meet a certain threshold of credit hours like 60. Freshman can change majors once during freshman year without those requirements. However, Georgia tech students do change their majors and it is very common.
