switching majors, L&S/Engineering

How difficult is it to switch majors at UCLA between the Engineering and L&S? If I apply with a major in Letters & Science like Cognitive Science, would it be difficult or impossible to switch into Computer Science? Likewise, how difficult would it be to switch into an L&S major if I apply for CS? How about double majoring between Engineering and L&S? Is Computer Science "impacted" at UCLA as it is in Cal?

switching from L&S to HSSEAS (engineering school) is hard, HSSEAS to L&S is easy... for HSSEAS you need to reapply and they decide if you quality or not...

For switching from L&S to Engineering, they will reevaluate your admission. You need to have slightly higher stats to get into Eng.

From Engr to L&S, it's not going to be a problem. You can double major if you want to - most popular is Engr and Econ/math. But, you are going to be here for 5 to 6 or more years, depending on the person.

You should go to one of the LS --> ENGR major change workshops. . .

Anyway, I don't know if they evaluate during fall quarter based on your high school portfolio (someone clarify?). In any given quarter though, they'll look at courses you've taken before (e.g. Chem 20A) and evaluate your performance. You'll have an essay to turn in for why you want to change. Generally though, the difficulty of getting into the program will depend on how strong the applicants are for that quarter.

Just email one of the HSSEAS counselors and they will explain to you and provide information about the next available major/college change workshops.

yep, HSSEAS -> LS is easy. Switched from Computer Science to Pre-Psychobiology first quarter.

^ worst decision of your life.....just wait and see

^encouraging! :)

I'm thinking of jumping ship and doing High-Energy Density Plasma (HEDP) physics.

UCLA High Energy Density Plasma Physics

YESH!
