I applied to UCLA with a 3.9 as a sociology major. I've had a change of heart and want to switch my major to communications. If I am accepted will I have a problem switching my major?

edit: I have all the prereqs for the communcations major completed...

Why is that? Is there somewhere I can check what different letters and science majors I can switch into? I feel that sociology isn't for me anymore...

It's a high selective major thats y... i know you cant switch these majors to: communication, econ, psychology, etc... other then those you could petition it and switch it.!!

It is definately not an automatic process.

you might be able to, but they may want to see how you do for your first few quarters at ucla (this is typical). But i think it is possible. I would talk to the department.

It is HIGHLY HIGHLY unlikely that they would allow. You would need amazing reasons and would probably have to have the dean on your side. Econ, Psych , and Communications, and a few others are pretty strict on the fact that if you do not transfer into their department they will not let you in.

Go to assit.org and look up every major your interested in. they will tell you.

What is your gpa? you need a 3.5 for them to even look at your application.

====Communication Studies/B.A.====

Listed below are the lower division preparation courses for the major. You
should complete as many preparation courses as possible prior to transfer, based
on the availability of courses. All courses must be taken for a letter grade.
THIS MAJOR IS HIGHLY SELECTIVE; applications undergo review by faculty in the
Communication Studies Department. A minimum UC-transferable cumulative GPA of
3.50 is required for faculty review. For more information regarding this major
and UCLA's transfer selection process, visit Welcome To The Communication Studies Department — Communication Studies and UCLA Undergraduate Admissions.

I was a math/econ major upon acceptance and wanted to transfer into just econ- my reasoning was that i am already doing all of the same core and will have to take 8 upper div econ courses anyways, so it is not as if i would not be in the classes to begin with. Its just that my major is guided by the math department b/c it has 1 more math course than econ course and the con courses are more limited to the math based ones... anyways, they told me that they would review my application and allow me to change if i had the same GPA as the average accepted students which they claimed was a 3.8 (which it was not !) so for communications here are the fall 07 stats- if your stats are similar you could argue that you are as good or better than these students (that is assuming for fall 08 the stats are similar)
