hey guys,
I'm 21, currently studying engineering and got 4 to 5 semesters left to finish my bachelor.
I'm sortof fed up with engineering and would like to make a switch to business, as it is more promising in the long run, in terms of salary etc.

Altho now considering my age, its seems to late to switch majors. especially to a business major, given the current job market. So I figured I might do an MBA after Engineering.

So i got a few question for you folks:

Should I do it right after the bachelor of engg. or after I have worked for a couple of years?

Should I have been promoted to a "supervising" by a company atleast, to even consider doing an MBA later, or can i just go out and do it on my own?

Can I work in any given non-technical company after i have attained the MBA, or only companies that are technical related? I read somewhere that an MBA is usually only useful in the area in which you have gained "work-experience".

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to rejoin an engineering firm in some type of business/management capacity then I would recommend getting a few years of experience. If you want to completely leave engineering behind then it does not matter.

Again, it depends on what you want to do. Most companies want to try you out in a supervisory role on a part-time basis before making you a full-time manager, so if you want to be a manager in an engineering firm then supervisory experience is crucial. But there are lots of positions for MBA’s (typically in the financial sector) that do not require management experience.

The MBA will qualify you fully for a certain set of jobs in the business and financial world. Your prior experience, combined with the MBA, may qualify you for additional positions. A few years designing cars plus an MBA preps you well for finance or to work for Ford, but you will still be underqualified to do work for an HMO, for example.
