if i said i was interested in a certain major in a particular school when i applied to cmu, how easy/difficult would it be to declare a different major from the same school? For instance....i want to eventually apply to law school and so i showed interest in the Ethics, History and Public Policy Major in H&SS. I was accepted to H&SS. But now, I think majoring in Economics (especially since it is jointly administered by H&SS and Tepper) would provide me with more flexibility in terms of a career in the case that I decide not to apply to law school. so, to get back to the original question...is it easy to decide to declare a major different than the one you put down in your application given that the major is offered by the school you were accepted to.

[sorry for the lengthy post :)]

can someone please respond? sorry, i just don't want this thread to go unnoticed

Patience :)

You will have to file for an application to become an Economics major and it will be based on how much space there is in the Econ degree. People who put Econ as their primary would obviously get first pick and if there are spaces left over (which there usually always are) they'll start seeing if you have the necessary credentials to declare the major.

Do you know how your 1st semester coursework looks yet? You should probably definitely consider taking Principles of Econ among other Econ courses. People declare after freshman year so spring semester you may want to look into MicroEcon and follow the classic Math for Econ which is 120,122,256,etc.

lol patience...i'll work on that

thanks though!
