I applied as a first choice history major and a second choice biochemistry major. I am just wondering if I do get accepted as a history major or both, do not really know how it works, how hard will it be for me to switch majors within the College of Arts and Sciences? Is there preference given to get into certain classes for certain majors. As a liberal arts major is it impossible/very hard to switch into a science major if my mind were to change? Would there be a very slim chance of me getting into the classes necessary for that major if I was not on that track from the start?
Freshmen matriculate as “undecided” majors.
You don’t need to officially declare until past halfway through your college career. I think everyone should dabble freshmen year in as many different things as they can before they pick a path Sophomore year.
Yeah, declaration is not recommended until second semester sophomore year. Also, Emory doesn’t have a biochemistry major though you can certainly make the equivalent of one or better (as I did along with several of my friends). Also, all you basically have to do is take your non-science interest courses along with the science courses that would fulfill your second choice major. It’s technically what many science and non-science major pre-meds do by default.
Is there competition to decalre certain majors?
No…You major in whatever you want. The only one where there is even slight competition is the business school and like 75-80% end up getting in. Creative Writing has hard cut-offs for class-enrollment numbers but not number of majors (which means you’ll have to apply to classes)
