Switching majors

Hello, I'm considering going to Johns Hopkins, but I'm a bit confused about what subjects I can major in. When I applied, I said I was interested in the humanities, which is true, but I'd also love to explore something more science-related. I got an e-mail saying I'm in the Arts and Sciences, and when I checked the majors there, there were a lot of engineering majors missing (in the engineering school, I'm sure). Thus, my question is, if I wanted to take something like Comp Sci or Mechanical Engineering along with English or Art History, could I? How would it work? Could I major or minor in them or am I restricted to the subjects offered at the Arts and Sciences? People say that you are accepted to JHU and the entirety of it its institution, so I'm wondering if this is possible. Thanks so much for your input!

It’s easy. I was Econ/IS coming in and I had no problems literally walking over to the Applied Math Dept., telling them I was interested and then going to the Engineering Advising office to switch my major. Also, you can major AND minor in both school, but you need to choose which of your major id your main major and that is what department you are in (Since Applied Math is an engineering major, I’m in WSE, but I am also majoring in International Studies which is in KSAS)

It’s really easy to double major/minor in different subjects! However, if you’re interested in engineering, make sure you switch into that a soon as possible. A lot of the engineering majors have special freshmen seminar classes that would be a shame to miss. Arts and Science majors/minors are easier to add on later on, but for engineering you need to start the calc/physics/etc. right away.

Switching majors is super easy! My sorority big switched majors probably four different times before settling into her current major. It’s a little more difficult moving from a&s to engineering only because engineering majors require more classes (specific engineering math classes, physics for engineers, etc) but moving from engineering to a&s, or within the schools is super easy!
obviously, you wouldn’t be able to move into BME.

Switching majors is very easy. I originally applied as a Mathematics Major (in Krieger school) and was able to switch very easily (in one email) to an Applied Mathematics Major (in Whiting school). Also, almost every student takes classes in the Krieger School and the Whiting School. So if you wanted to take a few Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering classes without majoring in them, you definitely could.
