Switching Majors

I got accepted to Umass for my second choice major: Undeclared Exploratory Track ET-Natural Sciences. My first choice was Computer engineering. Is there a way I can switch majors after I accept my offer?

@kaleab56 I know that in order to switch into any engineering major, you need to meet the requirements for the pre-engineering major first. Those requirements are C or better in Math 131 (Calculus 1), EnglWrit 112 (College Writing), and either Chem 111 (General Chemistry 1) or Physics 151 (General Physics 1). You can check out this link, which will show you what you need to complete in order to switch into the engineering major you want: https://engineering.umass.edu/current-students/admission-major

Hi, @ausach5453 i just got accepted to Undeclared Exploratory Track in Computing and Informatics. My first choice was Computer science. How long will it take me to switch my major to computer science and what are the requirements if it is possible?

@SRao77 for the CS major, you need to take COMPSCI 121 (Introduction to Problem Solving with Computers), COMPSCI 187 (Data Structures and Algorithms), MATH 131 (Calculus I), and MATH 132 (Calculus II). The grade requirements for the CS major are more rigorous than for the engineering major. You need a B+ or better in those classes listed above, no grade below C, and at least a 3.0 gpa. In addition, the CS major is application based whereas the engineering major just needs a change of major form. More information can be found on this website but the important information I listed: https://www.cics.umass.edu/ugrad-education/major-change-cs
