Switching majors

Is it hard to switch to the business school at nova from the Liberal arts school?

yes only about 1-2 per year are accepted.gl

Are there published statistics about this somewhere on the Villanova website? Thanks.

I just did. They told me, that I was very lucky that I have the credentials (I’m under scholarship) and that they can only do it for about 2, maybe three kids. VSB is much harder to get into and especially to transfer into. They told me there was no surefire guarantee that I would be able to switch successfully.

Please e-mail Sheila Cummings at sheila.cummings@villanova.edu. Make your request in a formal and polite manner to change schools (be sure to identify these). Your application will be again reviewed and you will recieve a phone call regarding your acceptance or denial…either way you still get to go Villanova :)!

I got accepted into Arts & Sciences EA but in subsequent months had been thinking that the business program might be better for me. I emailed admissions with the request to re-read my application and was accepted into VSB 2 days later (I did this in April). According to the info I saw, you can do this until classes begin in August. Good luck!

You just made my day, and I just emailed them about switching majors. I hope I’ll be able to get in. Thank you!

“VSB is much harder to get into”

That myth has already been busted! The reason it is hard to transfer in is because the core curriculum starts early and there are limits on class size. It is also difficult to transfer into nursing for the same reason. This has nothing to do with selectivity. The right approach is to try to transfer before starting. Or enroll as an economics major in the college of liberal arts and sciences. Obviously, this won’t work if you are planning to go into accounting. The College of liberal arts offers a B.S. in Economics as opposed to the BBA offered by the VSB.

Sorry hoopsrock could you please post your stats to see if I got a chance? thanks so much. I hope your right SJUHawk, according to hoopsrock it’s painless. Hope I’ll be able to get in. Wait so after enrolling as an econs major how do I get into the business school?

I was suggesting an economics major through the College of Liberal Arts instead of the business school. You can do economics through either one but the degrees are a bit different. The degree-related requirements are about the same but there is a different core curriculum for each college.

From another post by the hoopster, which can get by clicking on the user name his stats are…
GPA 93.5 weighted
SAT: 1980 620cr, 690m, 670w
ACT: did not take
SAT 2s: us history 690, bio 660
School does not rank
Classes: all honors and…

damn… mine is nowhere near that… I am 1820 my GPA not close to his, hope I get in cause of ec’s and international student status

enrolled data ---------------- Villanova(INCLUDING VSB) vs VSB

Mid 50% SAT Range ---- ----- 1210-1370 vs ** 1250/1390
Average ------------------------1286 **vs 1318
Mid 50% ACT Range ------ — 28-31 vs ** 29/32
Median ---------------------- 29.5 **vs 30

Top 10% HS Class -----------58% vs 68%

The data does not lie

Also use CR / Math for comparison , Villanova does use the Writing portion score of the SAT

oh thats not too bad, I got a 1280… pretty much in the range. Damn hope I get in.

Guys i got in!!! Woooo!!

I just sent a message to the Villanova’s admission office and Sheila Cummings wishing to change out of college of arts and sciences to VSB. I hope I get in! I also hope if I get rejected, this decision does not truly have an effect on my current status with Villanova.

what’s better: econ major at liberal arts and sciences? or VSB?

i JUST sent an email to the admissions office about transferring to VSB when i was originally in the liberal arts and sciences college but it seems like some people feel that their B.S. econ program is better than VSB…?

People will always feel like “their” program is better than others.

Look up the core curriculum on the Villanova website for both the college of arts and sciences and the school of business. That should explain the difference.

Dont let the arts and crafts people fool you, job placement for them is poop just because lib arts is such a whore and will let anybody in

Hey guys, obviously I’m late into the discussion but I’m an incoming freshman at Nova and I applied about a week ago to switch from the College of Engineering to the Business School. I think I am on a wait list to get in, but if this doesn’t work out is there anyway I can switch into the school as a sophomore without being lightyears behind everyone else:/ I’m freaking out slightly.

3 years late… but the answer is yes. just take those core classes that correspond to the VSB and COE core and you should be fine.
