Can I decide to switch the program that I applied for at McGill for another program in the same department after I'm admitted? Also, can I join a program later on if I decide that I want to study a second major?

Thanks

You’re admitted to a faculty, not a department, so, yes, you can switch programs after getting there. And you can even change faculty too, but that’s more complicated. But changing programs is relatively common, especially in the first couple of years (the further you progress in your degree, the harder it is to switch). Once you get to university, you may realise that what you thought you wanted to study isn’t for you, and discover new interests you may not have thought of before. It happens. Just don’t be like that acquaintance of mine who spent 8 years (I think), in 5 or 6 different programs (and 3 faculties, I think), before finally getting his degree. He was an exceptional case of course.

Thank you for your response! Sorry for mixing up faculty and department, too much college terminology to keep track of! I don’t plan to switch too much but I have been mulling between Physics and Biology which are in different programs. You’ve set my mind at ease though!
