Switching sports junior year?

So I've been on JV tennis freshman and sophomore year, but last year (soph) I really hated it because I would get home around 8 o'clock after away matches, and have no time for homework, and the tennis wasn't enjoyable either because I didn't have many friends on the team and all the JV teams we played were pretty bad.

The problem is, I don't have a lot of time to play tennis outside of school before the spring season, because I'm doing so much academic stuff. That means that I definitely won't make varsity in the spring, and I don't want to endure another miserable year of JV. Would it look really bad to colleges if I switched sports this year (I'm thinking of joining track in the spring, since I recently started running), or would they not give a crap because it's all JV anyways?

I would guess that they really wouldn’t care because its JV. It’s not like you are switching from being the star player of a team to being a nobody on another team. Hell, I switched from golf to cross country my senior year because I wanted to improve my track times. I was okay on the golf team, and I am in the same place (rank-wise) on the cross country team. It looks pretty much the same, but XC helps prepare me for the rest of the year.

Also, if tennis isn’t your main focus anyway, it shouldn’t impact colleges that much . If you are focused on academics, then that would shine. Just play whatever sport makes you happy/less stressed. That’s what I did, and I don’t regret it. Besides, you can look dynamic if you do well at outdoor track.

Ahh thanks! Yeah, it doesn’t make sense to be stressed about sports, since they’re definitely not going to be a big factor in me getting into college…now I just need to convince my Asian tiger parents…
