I would also recommend a large state university. Indiana has really nice people, even if it isn't in your area of geographic preference. California is probably out unless you are in-state there. How about Mississippi or Alabama?

Jeremy,

Perhaps people on this board are right....Wherever your home state is, definitely go to a state school. Yes, and maybe work also. Commute from home if possible. Not the ideal college experience, but if two exciting schools like Tulane and UM were not a fit for you...then you need to go in another direction.

One last point..and I hammered this home to you when you were at Tulane..if you remember...before you give up on UM...please join at least 1 club or perhaps two clubs or activities. You owe this to yourself...why just go to class and back to the dorm. Colleges thrive on students who do more than go to class. Find your passions and go for it. Also, go to a guidance counselor and tell them your family is broke..see what options are available...tell them your parents can not afford to send you anymore. You never know.

Have you considered the fact that maybe the problem isn't the schools but rather you? I know wonderful people at both Tulane and Miami and neither of them fit your description of being "fake and snobby." I suggest you take a long hard look in the mirror, reassess the true reasons for your unhappiness, and act accordingly. Life is what you make of it - I'm sorry you're unable to see that.

P.S.
The ":] smiley" in your title is redundant.
