Switching to Comp. Sci from Business Management

I applied to UCSC and was waitlisted, but recently was accepted off of the waitlist. When I applied, I put down Business Management as my major, with Economics as my secondary, but I want to switch into Computer Science. Does anyone know how difficult it will be to do so?

The my.ucsc portal has an “Update Major” tab, but when I scroll to Computer Science, the option to mark it as my new intended major is greyed out. It states that “that there may be certain majors that you will not be able to choose from the list, since these majors are only available if indicated on your original application”, yet I have heard of people transferring into Computer Science. I am planning to call soon but any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

@southbaysenior what was your sat score and gpa

You cannot declare a CS major without taking the required pre-req courses and meeting the GPA requirement.

@BTSFAN 1800 SAT (old) 28 ACT, 4.0 Weighted GPA, 3.5 Unweighted. Will this matter though?

@Gumbymom so does that mean I just have to complete those classes while maintaining a certain GPA to declare Comp Sci as my major? How hard will it be to get those classes with my current intended major though? Or is there no correlation?

All students that want to declare CS have to complete the listed requirements. Regarding getting the classes, I cannot answer but would assume that it should not be too much of a problem if there multiple classes available and you are flexible with times and professor. You might want to contact the CS department and ask these questions.
