Switching to Engineering from Humanities?

Hey everyone! At the time that I applied, I wanted to be an International Relations major. It was very tentative though, and I didn't feel any pressure knowing Hopkins is usually very flexible with majors. I now, after taking physics and calc, think I want to do civil engineering. It's not BME so I was wondering, is it easy to switch intended major before freshman year starts?

You could have just bumped my thread, I posted a very similar question yesterday.

@jhu518 I discovered (through extensive research :pp) that it’s really easy to switch. as long as it’s not BME :)

Great, thanks! Yet another reason why I love this school.

Same!!
I haven’t actually been accepted yet LOL but JHU is my top choice and I’m really really really hoping fingers crossed

Good luck! And I just thought of this, but you could even do a double major in civil engineering and international studies. Sounds like a cool combo.

You can’t switch before the year starts, but you can change schools in the fall. Just talk with your academic advisor. It’s not even necessary unless you plan on taking more than 16 credits first semester. Also, I’d still recommend that you take an International Studies class in the fall; don’t count it out before you even try it out!
