<p>I'm not sure where else to post this.. perhaps HSL, but I'm curious about all of your opinions: I'm planning on switching to a private from a public school next year (my junior year) for a multitude of reasons. What are your thoughts on this; do you think that it's a good or bad idea, this year being the most critical?</p>

Private schools may view this as a student coming down the home stretch and wanting to gain better academics under your belt before college. Lots of students come in to private school during the last 2 yrs of HS. Many even graduate HS and add one more yr. as a PG in a top private boarding school. Good luck.</p>
<p>I have to assume that it’s a good idea. There are “a multitude of reasons” (your words) for you and your parents to have made this decision. And it sounds like the plans are in place. So, without any other facts, like the pros and cons you considered and the reasons for the change…there’s no choice but to assume the three of you made a good decision.</p>
<p>If, however, it is not a good decision, there’s nothing to change that now, is there? The decision seems to be made and your plans are set. So if you later discover things aren’t working out as planned, then it will be up to you – more than anyone else – to make it a good decision by working hard, not being bitter about things that can’t happen, forcing yourself to accept reality and being intentional about finding the positives in your situation. You really shouldn’t exert energy into reflecting on whether an impossible future (junior and senior year at your public school) might be better than your immediate future (junior and senior year at the private school). Your energy should be zeroed in on making your immediate future the best possible situation that it can be. Relative to some other possible – but imaginary – option, private school for the next two years may not be ideal. So what? Exploit the situation you’re in for all it’s worth and get as much out of it as possible.</p>
<p>It’s one thing to regret the choice you made by leaving the public school…but you can only do that if you also harbor regrets for not making the most of the choices that you made while attending the private school. If you make a concerted effort to make this a good decision, then it will be a good decision.</p>
<p>Not only is the answer to your question THAT simple…it’s also entirely up to you, not us, to determine the answer! I hope you think it was a good decision. Good luck!</p>
<p>Thank you for your replies! Actually, nothing is final yet. I’m just looking at schools with my dad at the moment.</p>
<p>this is great advice. I am also thinking about reapplying to a few schools in Junior year, but the prob is that my grades might not be that great 
So yeah, I’m still debating whether or not it is worth another shot.</p>
<p>Well, my main reasons for wanting a switch are that I will have more opportunities, better guidance, better teachers, I will be surrounded by students who I can better relate to, a stronger arts department, and a new start!</p>
<p>SAME HERE! I’ve made friends at my current school and all that, but I feel like students at the schools I’m looking at would be a better match for me…? Of course I don’t know that much about it and stuff, but yeah, more opportunities and I’m hoping for amazing teachers 
The whole boarding school experience in general just seems pretty fantastic.</p>

<p>lol, I haven’t applied anywhere yett. Got waitlisted to Exeter this year, haha. But assuming that a miracle happens, and I do get accepted somewhere for junior year, then yes I will indeed be psyched ahah</p>
