I applied ED to WCAS this year (wish me luck!), but I really intended to transfer to SoC for their amazing RTVF program, then pick up my original intended major in WCAS (political science) as a double major.

I know transferring between schools usually goes off without a hitch, but I recently learned that RTVF admits only 90 students per class. Does anyone know if it's impossible/very difficult to switch into RTVF from WCAS once admitted to NU? And, on a related note, is it unheard of to switch schools very quickly after entering NU (first or second quarter of freshman year)?

Oh god, I hope this post doesn't jinx my chances of getting in. I love WCAS/political science too but I definitely have a strong interest in double majoring with RTVF.

One key thing my daughter learned in her four years at NU is that if you really want something from them you can make it happen. She has a good friend who misread the catalog (don’t ask) and was admitted to their Performance Studies program, transfered into their Acting major after the first term of her Freshman year, then switched out into a totally different major (I don’t remember which but I don’t even think it was in the SoC) at the end of her Sophomore year. This is just one example but yes, it does happen; if you truly want it to you can make it happen.

People switch majors all the time. It is not unheard of to switch into any major in SoC. You just need to get permission, fill out paperwork, and get the right people to sign your forms.

The only school I would be worried about switching into would be Bienen, but that’s beside the point.

@amtc Wow, that’s really helpful! I know the theater major is very competitive so that gives me hope that RTVF won’t be that bad.

@Preply Thanks, phew. Do you know if any kids switch schools before orientation week even begins, or very soon after first quarter freshman year?
