switching to undeclared?

Hi I was accepted to a school last year and decide to defer my enrollment and take a gap year.
When I was accepted into this school I declared as a neuroscience major.
After having some lab and research experience and looking at career prospects I am unsure that this is really what I want to major in. I am considering switching to undeclared so I could get a better sense of the options and then really pick the one that I am interested in. I start school fall of 2017.
Is this possible?
Could there be any negative consequences to doing this?
Thanks for any help

Answers depend on the school.

In particular, if neuroscience is a restricted or competitive major at that school, it may be difficult to return to that major if you switch out and then decide you want to do that major after all.

would it only depend on my GPA at the time? or would there be other requirements I would need when I decide to try and declare a major

It depends on the school and major.
