Switching your major

Hi. So i got into Hopkins as a math major, but I wanna switch to bio.
How hard is it? (i wanna do it before my freshman year starts.)
I mean does your major affect how they ask you to choose your freshman year courses? Or are all freshmen start out as undecided regardless of their intended major?
Thanks!

All students in the School of Arts and Sciences enter as “pre-majors” so you don’t actually pick a major until later on. All it takes to declare a major or switch majors is getting one piece of paper signed by your academic advisor and your new faculty advisor.

At least in the past, the reply card (where you accept your acceptance) had a place for your major, and whatever you listed there went down as your intended major.

Why would you not want to be a math major? Take some classes (like analysis and algebra) before you make that call. I might be a little biased…

Also, technically you are Undeclared so in the spring of your freshman year (or whenever), when you’re asked to declare, just tell them you want to do bio.

You can do anything you want. You can decide to be bio first sem and take classes for it, then decide you want to be art history. lots of flexibility.

i see. thank you so much for your replies! I appreciate it :)

Take as much variety in the first year (10 classes) and when you get to the end, pick the are you like the most. You may just be surprised.
