Hello, I am a sophomore at an inner city high school in NY and would love to study abroad through SYA my senior year. However, I am concerned about my chances of acceptance. I know that they accept roughly 2/3 of applicants and I am 20th in my class of 450 with a 95 gpa in all honors and have a ton of EC’s, but does the admissions committee prioritize students applying from “membership” schools over those from public hs? Also if anyone has any comments about their experience please let me know! I am trying to decide whether or not to apply to the italy or Spain program.
Maybe repost here?

If you want to almost guarantee your admission, you should apply to Italy, since they have significantly less applicants than for Spain. From your grades, you sound like you have a very good chance of getting into both countries, though.
My classmate who was accepted had a really low average from my understanding (like high C low B) but I attend a membership school, so that may have changed her chances. However, she’s on pretty heavy financial aid and during the application process, the admission officers asked her if she wanted to switch countries because they had so many applicants. In the end, everyone in my school who applied got accepted this year. Also, you can apply for two countries if you want to further guarantee admission.
I’m attending SYA next year so I wouldn’t know of any experience haha.
