Symbolic Systems/CogSci Question!

I have a question about the declaring major section of the common app.

I wanted to declare as Cognitive Science, but I understand that Stanford has essentially the same major under something called "Symbolic Systems." However, to me, this sounds a lot more computer/artificial intell-based instead of the cognitive neuro/philosophy route I wanted to go for, since although I do know a bit of CS, its definitely not my strong suit.

So my question is, is there anyone out there who is actually in symsys and can vouch for this? I've already read the explanation on Stanford's SymSys page and it didn't really explain that well...

If I don't declare Symbolic Systems, I'd probably declare under Bio (for neurobiology) or Undecided

bump, anybodyyy? lol i know this is an obscure question.

On my application, I’m declaring Symbolic Systems. I want to be a neuroscience concentrator.

From what I see, yeah, it does seem kind CS heavier. But I thought cognitive science was generally lots of programming. I don’t know, maybe it depends from school to school. In any case, it seems more balanced than CMU’s cognitive science, which differs from the computer science major by only two courses.

good point…hmm
i’m a bit hesitant on whether or not to declare it, since I am going for more of a biological standpoint…and my resume/profile doesn’t really back up anything that has to do with CS/AI

any other opinions?
